Bacterial Cytotoxicity

The assessment of bacterial cytotoxicity against a cell line consists in measuring the bacterial ability to kill cells.
To evaluate this phenomenon, SMALTIS has developed a method consisting in growing macrophages J774A.1 in presence of your bacteria of interest for a given time and then quantifying cell death.
This indirect quantification is based on the determination of Lactate Dehydrogenase released into the culture medium following cell death.

Example of achievement

     – Construction of a non-cytotoxic mutant derived from Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 strain
