Antibiogram

Antibiogram

The antibiogram is a qualitative analysis that allows the in vitro evaluation of the sensitivity of a bacterial strain to different antibiotics. For this purpose, an agar diffusion method is used to determine the diameter of the growth inhibition zone surrounding the antibiotic disc. Based on this diameter, the bacterial strain is categorized as susceptible (S), intermediate (I) or resistant (R) to the antibiotic tested, according to CLSI or EUCAST recommendations.

This examination is a tool to help in the therapeutic decision.
